His Mercies Are New Every Morning

Did you hear that? Of course, you didn’t hear it… You read it.

I am going to ask you to do an exercise with me. As you read the phrase to yourself, I want you to put emphasis on the word that is in BOLD lettering. Then ask yourself the question that I will pose to you. Think about your answer. You may even want to write it down… journal it… or put it on a piece of scrap paper to carry with you or stick on your fridge. Whatever you do, this exercise is simple and meaningful. Before we begin, let’s ask the Lord to lead and guide each of us. Me, as I write and work through this exercise myself, and you as you read it, think about it, apply it, and maybe even share it as you feel led by the Spirit.

His Mercies Are New Every Morning.       Whose mercies?

His Mercies Are New Every Morning.       What is new every morning?

His Mercies Are New Every Morning.        Can you count on this?

His Mercies Are New Every Morning.        What does “new” mean?

His Mercies Are New Every Morning.        Which mornings? The ones I wake up feeling like a good person?

His Mercies Are New Every Morning.        When will I know His new Mercies? What does this mean to me?

Gracious Father! You desire mercy, not sacrifice. You show mercy, unfailing mercy, every single morning of our lives. NEW Mercies. You have already taken in our day and know what mercies we will need from you. You have wiped us clean from our sins through the blood of your son Jesus. You have thrown them from you, as far as the east is from the west. Yet every morning, you are ready to show us your unconditional love and acceptance, your new mercies.

You are the One and Only God, creator of the universe, the one who seeks us to be His children and friends.

Work in our lives today. Show us how to accept from you what we cannot earn, will never earn, and do not deserve. Remind us that in You we find our strength, that you are our shelter and our salvation. Use us to point others to your love and grace in Jesus.

Take the word from your book and burn it into our hearts and minds so that we never forget that Your Mercies Are New Every Morning.

May you alone receive honor and glory for any good that comes from us.
